Beginning next week, 'My Daughter's Secrets' and 'The Widow's Boyfriend' will be availabe for sale, not just on Audible, but on twelve other platforms, including Spotify, Apple, Audiobooks.com and in libraries via Libby and Hoopla.   

Once again, I will be signing copies of my latest novel, 'The Brother' at the Art and Craft market at the Corn Hall in Cirencester. Other copies of my novels will also be available. Do drop in for a natter about all things bookish! 

I'm thrilled to announce that Joffe will be releasing my latest psychological thriller on 26th June 2025. I've been writing with a working title but this is almost certainly going to change so I can't yet share this with you. However you can be assured that the story contains all the hallmarks of my previous novels with the addition of a haunted main protagonist whose four month-old baby is at deadly risk.

Nannies have a habit of dying in my husband’s family.

His family: The Percivals live in a grand fourteen-acre estate in the Cotswolds, with tennis courts, indoor swimming pool and several cottages — or ‘lodges’ as they call them. I’m only surprised they don’t have a helipad.

My family: Mum’s a florist, Dad’s a kitchen-fitter. They live in a modest maisonette in Gloucester. I’m a hairdresser who dreams of owning my own salon.

I recently married the man of my dreams. The difference in our backgrounds was never an issue. Until now.

My husband persuades me to move into his family home while we save for our own place. It’s the worst mistake I ever made.

I don’t really fit in. My father-in-law has a twinkle in his eye I don’t like. My effortlessly chic mother-in-law intimidates me. My sister-in-law’s husband bullies her. They make no secret of their amazement that my husband chose me.

And now they’ve hired a new nanny for his sister’s kids.

But nannies have a bad history in this family . . .

THE PATIENT is being given away in a free book promotion by Joffe Publishers on Friday 12th July 2024. Delighted to sign a brand new two book deal with Joffe. Couldn't have done this without my agent, Broo Doherty, at DHH Literary Agency, and Kate Lyall Grant at Joffe. 

My latest domestic noir/psychological thriller (think toxic family!) is scheduled for release in November 2024, with the next story due in June 2025. It's going to be a very busy few months and I can't wait! 

Hannah Curtis is, once again, narrating one of my stories. I'm so excited to hear what she does with the dual narrative in 'The Widow's Boyfriend.'

About to write my next blog post, which I normally do through WordPress, I noticed that, instead of simply being able to read it, folk have to subscribe and then read it, which seems a bit like going around the houses to me. So, from now on, I will be posting any news simply on my news feed. 

And, yup, I do have news! ‘The Widow’s Boyfriend,’ my first brand new standalone for Joffe, is to be published on 17th August, 2023 – in time to catch the last half of the summer holiday season. I’m really excited about this one and hope you will be too. To read the ‘blurb’ go to the Novels section on this website. 

A ‘new new’ story has been back and forth to my agent and this, too, is in the literary pipeline – details to follow anon. With another idea burbling away, I intend to take a breather to allow it ‘to percolate’ and me to have fun before starting to write again in September.  So, that’s me, and I hope wherever you are, rain or shine, you have a lovely summer.

Very pleased to announce that Apple have released the audio version of 'A Deadly Trade'. It features Ben Onwukwe and his deliciously deadly voice captures my hitman, Hex, perfectly.

Obtaining agent representation is harder than ever but three authors, who I worked with on their stories, have defied the odds and done just that. In no particular order, Daniel Scanlan is now represented by Ian Drury at Sheil Land Associates, Rob Burnett is represented by Jemima Forrester at David Higham Associates and Charlotte Owen is represented by Nicola Barr at The Bent Agency. "Morally ambiguous characters are the toughest to create and write. I’m not talking about main protagonists with flaws and failings that make them human, (who cares for a perfect player?) but those characters who, from most perspectives, sound more like primary antagonists and thereby run the risk of alienating readers. Very few will happily follow a main man or woman with distinctly iffy morals for hundreds of pages, not least because it makes the climactic scene when good guy versus bad guy (simplistically put, I realise) tricky. "

If you want to watch a fabulous documentary about George Eliot's life, tune in to BBC 4 at 9pm on Sunday 10th November. Eliot wasn't only a great writer, she was a woman who defied convention. 'Everything Is Connected - George Eliot's Life' is directed by acclaimed award winning artist and Turner prize winner, Gillian Wearing. This experimental film is made up of a diverse cast of people from different backgrounds and I was honoured to be invited to take part. 

Familiy provides a rich seam for writers to mine and I didn't want to hold back with this story.  Just about everyone has something to hide.  Part whodunnit and part whydunnit, it was intriguing to write.  I hope my enthusiasm shines through the narrative...

I'm delighted to be participating in the Jericho Writers 2018 York Festival 7th-9th September.  I'm running two workshops:  'Do's and Don'ts For Strong Pace and Tension' and 'What Crime Writing Can Teach About How to Hook a Reader'.  It's a brilliant weekend for new writers to meet agents, other writers and book 'doctors' in a relaxed, fun and informal setting.  Definitely not to be missed.  For more details check out https://jerichowriters.com for all details, including Early Bird tickets if you book before 31st May.  Hope to see you there!
